[Alsa-user] how do I get an Audigy 2 NX working?

Hi,

I just received a Creative Audigy 2 NX (USB) soundthing, and loaded
snd-usb-audio.o and the world was happy. Mixer applications see it, I
can play music using GStreamer (sinesrc ! alsasink, for lack of
motivation to try something better).

However, I don't hear any sound! All volume sliders are maximized and
unmuted in any mixer application that I've tried (gnome-volume-control,
alsamixer). If it matters, the red button just above the 'mute' button
on the audigy box is burning, and it doesn't change if I press the
'mute' button on the box or the remote control.

Anyone seen this before? How do I fix this? A bug report in bugzilla
mentions to update the firmware. How do I do this?

(I'm using alsa-lib 1.0.4, alsa-drivers 1.0.4.)

Thanks,

Ronald

To partially answer my own question, loading the card in Windows (which
apprently uploads firmware) made it work, and afterwards it now works
under Linux as well. I'd still appreciate an answer to the below

How do I upload new firmware from a Linux-based system?

Ask Creative to port the firmware upgrade program to Linux.

I am trying to do the same thing.
I have an Audigy 2, and no sound on a new Fedora2 system.

Following your instructions I have loaded Windows2000 in another partition
on the disk, Did the Audigy install by inserting the Audigy CD.

Under Windows I have sound.

Under Linux, nothing, zip, nada.

I have EVERYTING in alsamixer unmutted and the volumes set up to the green/red
boundary.

Any other thoughts ?

Im trying to play a CD with the builtin (gnome) CD player.

Is there something Im missing?
Everyting works beautifully with a Sound Blaster Live on my OTHER machine (sigh)
but this board...

Audigy 2 PCI version ???

If yes, use alsamixer
Set volume for master, front, and PCM and try aplay to play=20
something.

Make sure that=20
"Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack" and
"IEC958 Optical Raw Playback Switch" are mutted.

NX = USB.

I've loaded the USB thing on a Win32 machine once, that loaded some firmware of some sort. After that, load under Linux with the snd-usb-audio driver and unmute PCM and speaker using your favourite sound mixer.

It doesn't work under Linux out-of-the-box, at least not for me. The single load under Win32 was required to get it to work.

Sorry for not modifying the Subject line, YES this is a PCI card not
the USB/NX version.

I have tried what Peter suggested, namely Muting the Analog/Digital Output
jack, and Muting the IEC958 Optical Raw Playback Switch, to no avail.

Still no sound.

After lunch I think Im going to move my Sound Blaster Live over to this
machine just to verify that IT works with this hardware, but any other
suggestions would be appreciated.
